Portrait and head shot sessions can often feel similar to a wedding day, where the session alternates between planned moments and a little controlled chaos. This ideally allows each subject some time to loosen up in front of the camera a bit, and also gives us a variety of moods and expressions to select from when creating your final gallery. Spontaneity and confidence are so important to the moments we capture while working together, so I like to conduct sessions that are relaxed and conversational to let the subjects’ personalities emerge naturally. Posed/planned images can be a great part of your gallery, but humans don’t normally sit around posing for a camera all day, so I like to mix up our approach for at least a portion of each session. The images that show some lovely imperfections and the humor of in-between moments often land at the top of a client’s list of favorites, and they are my some of my favorite to photograph. You can also make mean faces if you want.
